Cortney Herrera

Founded in 2015, self-taught distiller, Cortney Herrera began Wildcare with a dedication to create effective, holistic skincare based on the plant life in her landscape. Through red cedar forests of the Pacific Northwest, to sweet jasmine blossoms in sunny California, Cortney and her family actively seek out and learn from nature on a weekly basis. Inspired by visuals, scent memories, and feelings from nature, the formulas and product names in the Wildcare line often make their way into Cortney’s dreams—an authentic relationship deeply built on trust, connection and patience. Receiving formal training in Culinary Arts, a year long internship in Herbal Medicine, and a long winding path of continuing education and research, she directly experienced the synergistic benefits of purely natural ingredients and therapeutic botanical care from the inside, out.

Wildcare is humbled to participate in the 3,000+ year old slow, artisan process of distillation, and extend its magic to you in every drop. Through the intelligent use of earth-grown materials and thoughtful natural ingredients, the hope for Wildcare is to advocate for and realign ourselves with nature, creating balance through botanical alchemy.

Patrick and Cortney met as makers through Instagram and—serendipitously enough—discovered they shared not only a tenderness for nature and its magic, they also shared a city in common. Thank you for making the time to chat with us this week, Cortney. You are our Virgo sister, sweetest-ever friend, and an all around badass expander.

Now, let’s hear from Cortney herself…

What are your pronouns?

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Observant, driven, triple virgo, mama, freak, humble, earth witch.

How would explain hydrosols to a beginner?

Hydrosols are the aromatic waters of distilled plant material. When you distill a plant, what emerges is a combination of hydrosol and essential oil, a 3,000+ year old practice. Unlike EO’s, hydrosols are very gentle and suitable for all skin, containing plant acids, nutrients and energetic support. They’re most commonly utilized in skincare as an ideal pH balancing toner.

What inspires your creative process?

Dream work + sensorial suggestions from nature.

What does scent mean to you?

Tell us about your favorite Sigil perfume.

Amor Fati. It evokes a feeling of protection for me— grounded energy amongst bustling spaces. Fresh green pine lifts my spirit while palo santo wood centers me into my body.

If you could rename the fragrance, what would you call it?

An exhale during a hug.

Self awareness through movement.

It’s in us all and is ever-changing depending on how we transmute it.

Those that are off social media.
